Wine of the Week:
Bandana Malbec Mendoza 2010
$11.99
Winemakers Notes:
A perfect offering of those natural forces from the Mendoza vineyards of intense violet color, with lush blueberry and raspberry characteristics and subtle notes of vanilla on the finish.
The name Bandana is a nod to the famous Argentinean cowboys of tpast, know as Gauchos, who wore brightly hand-woven fabrics known as Bandanas.
In the lower foothills of the Andes, in Mendoza, stands Bodega Cruz de Piedra, the winery that pioneered the single varietal history in Argentina. The founding alonso family tend to their vineyards while the stunning vista of the snow-covered Andes in the vineyards’s background reminds us of the stark contrast of nature’s forces – intense heat in the vineyards and snow on the Andes that becomes precious water flow to feed the vine’s root systems.
